Grizzly Bear viewing excursion with local indigenous culture (length: 8 to 10hrs) Port McNeill British Columbia

4 PAX MINIMUM / 6 PAX MAXIMUM / Minimum age : 8

We travel through the Broughton Archipelago toward the mainland fjords, abundant with opportunities to see other wildlife that reside on BC’s coast, such as humpback whales, orcas, dolphins, sea lions, eagles and wolves. After a quick safety briefing, we loosen the lines and begin the Super Natural one hour and forty-five minute journey into beautiful X̱a̱ḵwika̱n (Thompson Sound). Along the way, sit back, relax and enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast including coffee, tea and water. We will navigate the sheltered waters of the Broughton Archipelago in search of coastal land and marine wildlife. The Broughton’s are home to many shell midden beaches that were once ancient villages occupied by the Musg̱a̱makw Dzawada̱’enux̱w. While heading deep into the Sound, we may spot resident Pacific white-sided dolphins feeding, or just having fun! Once we arrive at the head of the Sound we will board a truck to bring us further up the beautiful X̱a̱ḵwika̱n river, true back country and home to the grizzly bears. We will place ourselves at a quiet and safe sitting area along the river and learn a traditional story as we wait for the grizzlies to come and feast on wild salmon. A healthy lunch made with fresh ingredients will be served at the cabin just before we depart back to the boat. On our return route we will look for ancient pictographs. Keep watch for pacific white-sided dolphins as we chart our way by Gwayasda̱ms, where my mother was born, on Gilford Island. There we will view the oldest standing Big House in Canada, erected in 1887, and learn the interesting history of this ancient and culturally significant place. The last leg of our journey continues through the Broughton Archipelago and across the Queen Charlotte Straight to view humpback whales before we chart our way back home; this truly is a wildlife experience!
